Kid Inventors’ Day: Celebrate & Encourage Your Little Inventor

“Hide not your Talents, they for Use were made. What’s a Sun-Dial in the shade!”

- Benjamin Franklin (Kid Inventor)

If you didn’t already know today is Kid Inventors’ Day (K.I.D.) It was decided several years ago to create the day to celebrate the achievements and imaginations of our youngest inventors as well as inspiring more children to get creative! It is no coincidence that January 17th is the birthday of Benjamin Franklin. As well as being one of the Founding Fathers of the United States, Franklin was also a childhood inventor, having at twelve years old invented the world’s first pair of swim flippers. He was not alone. Did you know that both the trampoline and earmuffs were invented by children? Perhaps even more impressive was Louis Braille who spent many childhood years inventing a new language that would allow the blind to read.

Kid Inventors’ Day is one of Team Lottie’s favourite days of the year. In fact, all year round we welcome the ideas and creations of young inventors worldwide. Many of our products were invented by children including Fossil Hunter, Always Artsy and Stargazer. Our Inspired By Real Kids Competition runs every month and reminds children that imagination can one day become reality. For example, Lottie ambassador Allie (@robotmakergirl) invented a robot using recycled household items at six years old. Allie continues to build and design and Team Lottie remains incredibly impressed with her STEM journey. We feel that with a little encouragement, any child can get inventing!

How Can You Celebrate Kid Inventors’ Day?

If you have children, Kid Inventors’ Day can be a really fun theme for a day spent together. Children’s minds and their imaginations are limitless. While us adults think we know all about the “impossible”, children aren’t burdened by words like “I can’t” just yet. Nurture that spirit! You’ll be amazed by the ideas your children come up with. Kid Inventors’ Day also offers loads of fun ideas on how to make this day creative and educational. Perhaps you could visit a local museum, lots of them have K.I.D. stuff happening. You can also enter our very special K.I.D. giveaway here where you can win ALL THREE inspired by real kids dolls!

However you decide to spend it, today and every day is the perfect opportunity to raise awareness about the strengths and abilities of your children. Make sure they know that they can literally reach for the stars!
